Disneyland Travel Tips

Getting From Different Neighborhoods In Anaheim To Disneyland
Most of the hotels we’ve found are within walking distance from Disneyland, so you won’t have to worry about driving or flagging down taxis. But if you decide to stay at a hotel further from the park entrance, then you can always drive to Disneyland and park your car in their parking lot.
Unfortunately parking isn’t free, so it’s worth checking out the parking prices ahead of time. Expect to pay around $35 per day for parking at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park.
If you don’t have a car, you’ll be glad to know that Uber and other pick-up apps like Taxi and Lyft pretty easily. If you’re traveling as a big group, it’s worth checking out SuperShuttle, as you can make reservations for up to 10 passengers!
Sign up for a new account and use code WILLIAM4825 to get 50% off your first 2 rides (max $10 USD per ride). Offer valid for 14 days after you take your first ride.
For any guests thinking of staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you’ll be happy to hear that one of the perks is their free transportation system. You can use the monorail and bus to get from their hotels to the theme park.
But even if you aren’t staying at an official Disney Resort hotel, some hotels have their own shuttle service, which you can use.
Looking for the cheapest way to get around Anaheim and reach Disneyland? The Anaheim Resort Transit System goes to the main hotel areas and Disneyland. Their buses also cover the neighboring cities of Garden Grove and Orange. They offer super cheap day passes and multi-day passes. You can check their up-to-date prices and learn more about how it works here.
Getting Around Once You’re Inside Disneyland
Disneyland is huge, so getting from one place to another can take longer than you might think! Lucky for you, Disneyland saw this coming and quickly resolved the problem with the Disneyland Monorail.
This high-speed train rockets its way around the Disneyland Resort. The train runs every 10 minutes, and there are 2 Monor
ail stations. If you have a park admission ticket, you can skip the Main Entrance and board the Monorail at the Downtown Disney District station, then hop on and travel all the way to Tomorrowland.
We timed how long it took to get from Tomorrowland to Downtown Disney and it was a lightning fast 4 minutes.
Plan Your Trip
Check the US VISA requirements ahead of your trip – Anyone who isn’t a US national should also be up to date with VISA requirements before organizing a trip to Orlando. You can find out more and check if you need a VISA or ESTA here.
Print out the Disneyland Guide Map or download the Disneyland App before your trip – It’s easy to underestimate just how big Disneyland is. Save yourself time getting lost with their app or guide map! You can get their PDF Guide Map here.
Check out ticket options and decide what’s best for you – You can browse the different day passes and multi-day passes here. Remember, you can sometimes get your tickets cheaper through our affiliate links!
Visit outside of peak season to avoid the worst of the crowds – Disneyland is always busy, but if you visit from mid-September through to mid-Novermber or from mid-January through to mid-March, you’ll avoid the park’s peak seasons.
Leave an extra day to visit other destinations – Whilst Disneyland is the star of the show and the reason most travelers come to Anaheim, there are other cool attractions nearby that you should make time for! Set an afternoon aside to visit the stunning Huntington Beach just half an hour away, or spend a day walking around Santa Ana’s charming downtown.
Not traveling with kids? Be selective about your hotel choice – Most people come to Disneyland with kids, so many hotels in the area are designed for families. If you’re traveling solo or as a couple, avoid being swarmed by kids at the hotel’s pool area by choosing a more adult hotel. A good option is Anaheim Marriott.
Download the A-way WeGo app on your phone – The app is the Anaheim Transportation Network’s bus app. It will show you all the pick-up stops and helps you find the best route to get you where you want to go! You can learn more here.

Disneyland Packing Guide
This handy packing guide includes everything you need to think about bringing on your trip:
- Casual clothes: If you’re zooming around Disneyland for the day, prioritize comfort over style. Make sure you bring comfortable and casual clothes on your trip. Because of how hot it can get in California, we recommend packing a few pairs of shorts too!
- Pack a sunhat: California is blessed with sunny days year-round and mostly hot weather. Since you’ll spend the day outdoors exploring Disneyland and going on the awesome rides, you’ll need a good hat to protect yourself from the sun.
- Bring plenty of sunblock: Keep a bottle of sunblock with you at all times. Add it to your daypack and reapply it throughout the day at Disneyland to avoid spoiling your holiday with a nasty sunburn!
- Your best camera: You’ll want to snap some pictures of your adventures in Disneyland to show everyone back home! To get the coolest holiday pictures with your favorite Disney characters, consider accessories like selfie sticks, too. For reflection-free photos, look into getting a lens hood.
- Comfy walking shoes: Your trip to Disneyland will involve a lot of walking, so pack some comfortable trainers. You might want to consider bringing a pair of walking sandals to wear on those extra hot days.
- If you’re visiting from another country, remember you’ll need a travel adapter and a voltage converter. They use plug types A and B in the US, so maybe bring one of each just in case!
- As the US runs on 120V electricity outlets, if you have electronics that run off 240V, it’s worth investing in a voltage converter. They’ll save your electronics from getting destroyed!
- Remember to bring along any Disney pins you have to swap at Pin Trading!

Disneyland Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest month to go to Disneyland?
Disneyland has a pretty unique ticket pricing system. Essentially, there are 6 tiers. The higher the number of the tier, the more expensive the price of a 1-day theme park ticket on that day. They calculate the ticket price of different dates based on the usual amount of visitors and how desirable the date is.
It’s a bit tricky to understand, but luckily, the park releases a ticket calendar where you can see exactly what tier each date of the year falls into. Here is the tiered ticket calendar for 2025.
All in all, there isn’t really one month when it’s cheaper, there are just days when you can get your day pass for less. As you’d expect, certain weekdays are cheaper than weekends and public holidays are pricier.
Is it cheaper to stay at Disneyland or off-site?
Hotels off-site are definitely cheaper than the official Disneyland Hotels. In Anaheim, you can find hotels for as little as $85 per night in the neighborhoods surrounding Disneyland. Of course, the budget-friendly hotels and motels won’t be the most high-end options in the area, but if you’re traveling on a small budget, it’s worth the trade-off.
That said, there are some perks to staying at one of the Disneyland Hotels. Their rooms are themed, which adds to the magic of the experience (especially for young kids!). You’ll also get early bird access and be able to enter their theme parks half an hour before their regular opening time, which will give you enough time to jump on all the most popular rides before everyone else arrives. And of course, the hotels are in the best location.
The official Disneyland hotels in Anaheim are Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the Disneyland Hotel, and Pixar Place Hotel. You can find out more about them on Disneyland’s official website.
Which Disneyland Hotel has direct access to the park?
Unfortunately, none of the three hotels has direct access to Disneyland Park itself, just to other areas of the theme park. But that doesn’t mean the park is hard to reach from the Disneyland Hotels.
There are three official Disneyland Resort hotels in Anaheim. Of those two, the Disney Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and the Disney Pixar Place Hotel both have direct access to the Disney California Adventure Park. From there, you can reach Disneyland Park on foot in no time.
Disney Grand Californian Hotel & Spa also has pedestrian access to the Downtown Disney District!
To get from Disneyland Hotel to Disneyland you’ll have to walk through Downtown Disney. Then you can either keep walking until the park entrance or hop on the Disney Monorail, which will take you to the Tomorrowland Station.
What month is Disneyland least crowded?
There’s never a guarantee you’ll get a quiet day at Disneyland; thousands of people visit the park every day. It’s such an epic theme park that many families even fly in from abroad.
If you’re hoping to beat the crowds, your best bet is to visit between mid-September and mid-November or from mid-January to mid-March. Another great tip is to skip visiting on all the big holidays, like Christmas and Thanksgiving, if you don’t want to wait in long queues all day!
Another way to figure out when there might be fewer crowds is to check what dates on their tiered-ticket calendar are less desirable. Tier 0 days are the cheapest because they’re dates when there are usually less visitors, therefore they drop their prices based on the demand. Certain weekdays are more likely to be less crowded, for example. Here is the tiered ticket calendar for 2025.
Where is the best place to stay near Disneyland?
The three best areas to stay in around Disneyland are the Convention Center, near Downtown Disney, and along South Harbor Boulevard. Disneyland is super accessible from all three, either on foot or by shuttle.
Each area also has its own attractions, and you can get picked up directly from your hotel to go on tours to other cities, like LA and Huntington Beach!
Travel Resources For Your Next Trip

Credit cards: Don’t get burned by hidden fees on top of terrible exchange rates. When we travel now, we use the Wise Card. Simply load it with the currency you need before you go and use it as a regular VISA or their digital wallet card. Use their free app to track how much you have and top up when you need to.
Flights: Of all the booking search engines, Skyscanner is the most helpful and easy to use thanks to their Everywhere feature. Kayak is also another that’s we will often check as well.
Car Rental: If you’re looking to save money, these car rental coupon codes will be a true game-changer. Otherwise, DiscoverCars and RentalCars are great places to start.
Rideshare: For new Lyft users, use code WILLIAM4825 to get 50% off your first 2 rides (max $10 USD per ride). Offer valid for 14 days after you take your first ride. For new Uber users, use code psuqbjg4d7rn for the same offer except it’s valid for 30 days.
Airport Parking: You’ll need a spot to leave your car at the airport so why not book a spot at a discount. Use code AWESOME7 to get at least $5 off at Airport Parking Reservations or Park Sleep Fly packages.
eSIM: Lately, we’ve really loved using eSIMs. We’ve tested several over the years and we have access to a few special promotions.
- AmigoSIM – Use GOINGAWESOMEPLACES to save 25% off. Code is re-useable.
- Gigsky – Use TANG149 to get $3 USD when you sign up, then use code GOINGAWESOME to save 20% on all eSIM orders.

Wifi Hotspot: We’ve been a huge fan of wifi hotspot devices such as PokeFi (use code GAP24300) because their rates are are hard to beat and it works globally. Solis is another that we recommend. Pros are that you can share the wifi with your whole group but cons are that you have to invest in a device and you have to charge it every night.
Hotels: Our go-to is Booking.com because they have the best inventory of properties including hotels and B&Bs plus they have their Genius tier discounts. Expedia is also worth using especially with their One Key rewards program which is basically like cash. The exception is Asia where Agoda always has the best prices. Always do a quick check on TripAdvisor as well.
Vacation Rentals: Your first instinct will be to check Airbnb but we always recommend checking VRBO as well if you’re looking for a vacation rental (now eligible for One Key).
Tours and Activities: When planning our trips, we always check both Viator and GetYourGuide to at least see what’s out there in the destination that we’re going to. They often have different offerings and prices so check both.
