Historic train stations are cool — but they're even better once converted into a trendy hotel where you can earn and use Marriott Bonvoy points, right?

That's exactly what you'll find in Salt Lake City at the now-open Asher Adams, an Autograph Collection hotel that was formerly the city's Union Pacific Depot, built between 1908 and 1909. Now with 225 rooms, the French second empire-style depot has been reborn into a modern hotel, but it retains touches of its past life with restored features like stained-glass windows and terrazzo floors. Its name comes from John R. Asher and George H. Adams, two American railroad cartographers.

There are 13 suites in the restored building, all featuring exposed brick, picture frame-style molding and bathrooms with soaking tubs and subway tiles. The rest of the hotel's modern rooms are in a brand-new, eight-story tower; they give a subtle nod to the station and the history of Salt Lake City.

The original building has a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, and guests will notice elements of its former life as a train depot throughout the property. You'll especially see it in the stunning public areas like the Grand Hall, as well as the four bars and restaurants — each of which was inspired by railway dining cars.

Rouser offers New American-style cuisine served from a kitchen using coal grills, ovens and rotisserie as a reference to historic coal-fueled train engines. No. 119 offers whiskey drinks overlooking the Grand Hall and a vinyl lounge with more than 2,500 records. The hotel's main bar, The Bar at Asher Adams, sits in the center of the Grand Hall, and it's the "heartbeat of the property," according to the hotel. Counterpart, inspired by a train's club car, is where guests can get their morning caffeine fix, pastries and light meals.

There are also a fitness center and meeting spaces on-site. The hotel offers easy access to highlights of Salt Lake City's downtown area, like the Delta Center — where you can catch Utah Jazz basketball games and concerts — as well as the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art and so much more.
