Midcentury-modern flair in Myrtle Beach: Voco — The Shelby Myrtle Beach

VOCO THE SHELBY — MYRTLE BEACH

In the heart of South Carolina's Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach is known for its buzzy amusement parks and its wide boardwalk (a relic from the 1950s). Now, a new hotel is nodding to the popular vacation destination's 1950s and '60s heyday. Voco — The Shelby Myrtle Beach, a member of IHG Hotels & Resorts, opened this summer with a design inspired by local legend and renowned hostess Shelby Ann Byrd.

The 241 guest rooms and suites have retro-inspired interiors, ocean views and thoughtful amenities like La Colombe coffee. We think Byrd would have approved of the fringed umbrellas by the pool, locally made saltwater taffy at check-in and the 10-court pickleball club that will open in 2026.

To celebrate the opening, the hotel is offering a special "Grand Opening" package that includes a $25 daily food-and-beverage credit (use it to order dishes like warm buttered lobster rolls) and complimentary welcome drinks for two upon arrival. The hotel has a lazy river, morning yoga on the lawn and live local music by the pool.

Book Voco — The Shelby Myrtle Beach from $274 or 46,235 IHG One Rewards points per night. The Grand Opening package starts at $289 per night.

RITZ CARLTON BACARA/FACEBOOK

In time for its 25th anniversary in September, The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara has debuted a propertywide renovation that has touched every corner from the private poolside cabanas to the restaurants. Nature and the heritage of the Chumash people, who once inhabited the coastal bluff where the hotel sits, inspired the revamp. Guest rooms and suites feature deep pops of red, horse blanket-inspired headboards and woven materials. The Chumash were renowned basket weavers.

The "Best of Bacara" package, available over Labor Day weekend, includes a $400 credit per stay to enjoy across the resort, from facials at the four-story spa with a rooftop lounge to chef Danny Grant's Amalfi Coast-inspired restaurant, Marisella.
