How to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt

22 hours ago 2

You have many options for redeeming Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Typically, you can get the most value by transferring them to one of the program's 11 airline or three hotel loyalty programs.

My favorite and most used Chase transfer partner is World of Hyatt. So, here's what you need to know about transferring Chase points to Hyatt.

Can you transfer Chase points to Hyatt?

If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees), Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees) or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (see rates and fees), you can transfer points from your Ultimate Rewards account to select airline and hotel loyalty programs. One of the programs you can transfer Chase points to is World of Hyatt. So yes, you can transfer Chase points to Hyatt.

Chase says you should see the Hyatt points in your account by the next business day, but it may take up to seven business days. However, in practice, points usually appear in my Hyatt account immediately when I transfer Chase points to Hyatt.

Chase to Hyatt transfer ratio

As with all the Ultimate Rewards transfer partners, the Chase to Hyatt transfer ratio is 1:1, and you must transfer points in increments of 1,000. This means that if you transfer 10,000 Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt, you'll end up with 10,000 Hyatt points.

A transfer bonus could theoretically boost the transfer ratio; however, we've yet to see a transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards to World of Hyatt — and are unlikely to see one, due to the high value of Hyatt points.

When should you transfer Chase points to Hyatt?

I transfer Chase points to Hyatt when I don't have enough Hyatt points in my account to book a specific award stay and don't want to buy Hyatt points. I always compare paid rates to award rates and only redeem Hyatt points when I get at least 2 cents per point in value.

There are two other considerations to keep in mind before transferring Chase points to Hyatt.

Do you want to redeem points for a stay through Chase Travel?

You have two options if you want to redeem Ultimate Rewards points for a Hyatt stay.

First, you can transfer Chase points to Hyatt and then book an award stay through World of Hyatt. You can also book your stay through the Chase Travel℠ portal and redeem Ultimate Rewards points at checkout. You'll get 1.25 cents per point if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, or 1.5 cents per point with Chase Sapphire Reserve.

I avoid booking Hyatt stays through the Chase Travel portal, as I don't get elite earnings or benefits from World of Hyatt when doing so. But if you don't care about elite earning and benefits, you may want to compare the points you'd need to redeem for a Hyatt stay when booking directly with Hyatt versus booking through the Chase Travel portal.

Since World of Hyatt uses an award chart instead of dynamic award pricing for most stays, the number of points you'll need to redeem can vary drastically depending on how you redeem. For example, this one-night stay at a Category 1 Hyatt property on an off-peak date would cost 3,500 points if booked through World of Hyatt, but 16,878 points if booked through Chase Travel with an Ink Preferred account.

In short, if you're willing to forgo World of Hyatt elite benefits and earnings, it's worth comparing the number of points your stay would require through World of Hyatt and Chase Travel.

Could you earn Hyatt points via another method?

Transferring Chase points to Hyatt isn't the only way to earn Hyatt points. If you need to boost your Hyatt account balance quickly, you can transfer Bilt Rewards Points to Hyatt or buy Hyatt points.

And if you have longer to earn more Hyatt points, you could boost your account balance via stays or a World of Hyatt card. Here's a look at the welcome offers on two such cards:

  • World of Hyatt Credit Card (see rates and fees): Earn 30,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening. Plus, earn up to 30,000 more bonus points by earning 2 bonus points total per dollar spent in the first six months from account opening on purchases that normally earn 1 bonus point (on up to $15,000 spent).
  • World of Hyatt Business Credit Card (see rates and fees): Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening.

So, while transferring Chase points to Hyatt is a great way to accrue Hyatt points, it's far from the only way.

How to transfer Chase points to Hyatt

Once you've found award availability and decided that transferring Chase points to Hyatt is your best option, here's how to go about the process. Log into your Chase account and choose either your Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred account. I chose my Ink Business Preferred account, from which I could select "Redeem" next to my point balance.

HYATT

Select the three dots in the top navigation bar, then choose "Travel" and then "Transfer points to partners."

HYATT

Scroll down on the page that loads until you see the hotels section. Click on the tile for Hyatt.

HYATT

Read the information on the page that loads and then click "Transfer points." If you're in an account with an authorized user, you may need to select the user to whom you want to transfer points. Once you do so, enter or confirm the World of Hyatt account number associated with that user and click "Next."

HYATT

Enter the number of Chase points to transfer to Hyatt and select "Next."

Like I said earlier, in my experience, Chase points usually transfer to Hyatt immediately. However, I typically have to log out of my Hyatt account and then log back in to see the transferred points in my account. The transfer can take up to seven business days to process.

Bottom line

Transferring Chase points to Hyatt is often a good way to get excellent value from your Ultimate Rewards points. However, keep in mind that every Chase point you transfer to Hyatt is a Chase point you can't transfer to other Ultimate Rewards transfer partners. I recommend keeping your Ultimate Rewards points until you're ready to book an award flight or night. Then, transfer your rewards once you find availability and determine your redemption rate is high enough to justify using your Ultimate Rewards points.
