Breeze Airways is bolstering its service in Florida this winter. The Utah-based low-cost carrier, which commenced service in 2021, unveiled its latest expansion Tuesday, with four new routes to the Sunshine State.

Between December and February, Breeze will expand its footprint at Orlando International Airport (MCO) with three new routes — each from smaller U.S. cities.

Plus, the carrier will launch a new nonstop to Tampa International Airport (TPA) from Erie, Pennsylvania, just as it prepares to launch service from the Keystone State city this fall.

"We're connecting the dots between some of our existing cities with these exciting new routes, all of them previously unserved," Breeze CEO David Neeleman said in a statement announcing the news.

Breeze's new service in Florida — particularly Orlando — comes amid a year that's seen a handful of U.S. carriers temper their growth or outright pull back in the region in the face of surging competition.

This winter, between October and the end of March, the total number of seats on domestic flights to Orlando will be down 2.4%, year-over-year — and by more than 10% from two years ago.

Breeze, on the other hand, was set to see its wintertime Orlando seats spike 60% over last year even prior to this route announcement.

The carrier has touted its service to comparatively unserved markets as a key to avoiding the stiff competition that its competitors have bemoaned much of this year, which has driven down fares — and by extension, airline profits.

Meanwhile, this latest batch of routes announced by Breeze will see it double down on some of its most recent growth plans. That includes northern New York's Ogdensburg, where the carrier last week launched new nonstop service to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
