Whether it's the changing colors, temperatures cooling off, or the desire to binge-watch "Gilmore Girls," fall just hits different for some of us. To help you get ready for the season, Southwest Airlines just dropped a new fall deal offering travelers up to 40% off base fares. The sale applies to flights within the airline's vast flight network in the continental U.S., as well as routes to and from Hawaii, Puerto Rico and even a few international destinations.
The travel window for this deal is between Aug. 25, 2025, and Jan. 26, 2026. An important note: This is a quickie sale, with just three days to take advantage of the discounts. You must book your travel by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 7, 2025. There are restrictions, and some routes have blackout dates to consider. For example, travel within the continental U.S. the week of Thanksgiving is exempt from the sale; travel to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and international destinations is also blacked out between Aug. 28 and Sept. 2, 2025.
That's why it's always a good idea to read the terms and conditions before you book.

Sample flights
We always like to use the Low Fare Calendar option on the Southwest website to search for the best prices during sales like this.
I used it to search for options to fly from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) in Los Angeles in September:
This FLL-BUR itinerary is available for just $237 round-trip. We found good availability for this route in September.
For example, you can fly from Chicago to the Rockies and enjoy Denver's spectacular fall colors in October at a nice discount. Again, the Low Fare Calendar is very useful if your travel schedule is flexible enough that you can scan for the best possible prices.
This round-trip itinerary from Chicago's Midway International Airport (MDW) to Denver International Airport (DEN) in mid-October is available for $152 with the current sale.
One of the highlights of this sale is being able to book flights to Hawaii below the retail price.

In early December, we found flights from Los Angeles to the Hawaiian capital for less than $300 round-trip. This itinerary from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) is one example of the bargains we found.
Bottom line
If your dates are flexible enough that you can avoid the blackout dates for the most popular routes, the latest Southwest sale offers great value for fall travel. Keep in mind that Southwest did away with its "bags fly free" policy earlier this year; if you want to know an easy way to still get a free checked bag with Southwest, read this TPG story to get all the details.
