Editor's Note

This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information and offers.

The American Express® Green Card, with valuable bonus categories and a strong collection of benefits, should be on your radar, especially with its moderate $150 annual fee.

This card is great for those who spend a lot on travel and dining and want to earn American Express Membership Rewards points. Let's dive in to see what this card has to offer to new cardmembers.

The information for the American Express Green Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Amex Green current welcome offer

New cardmembers can earn 40,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 in purchases on the card in the first six months of card membership. According to TPG's May 2025 valuations, this welcome offer is worth $800.

This is the usual offer we have seen on the card. The Amex Green rarely offers an elevated welcome offer, so now is likely the best time to apply.

THE POINTS GUY

The fact that you can earn the bonus in six months instead of the usual three months that most cards require means this is an easy offer to access, including for those with a lower income. You need to spend just $500 monthly for six months to earn the bonus.

Amex Green benefits

With the Amex Green Card, you'll earn 3 points per dollar on travel, restaurants worldwide (including takeout and delivery in the U.S.), transit and 1 point per dollar on other purchases.

They're very broad categories, with travel and transit including everything from the usual flights, hotels and car rentals to cruises, tours, ride-hailing and parking.

Cardmembers also receive up to a $199 credit per calendar year when they use their American Express Green to purchase a Clear Plus membership. Your statement credit will cover the cost of your entire membership.

Bottom line

Although this card is built primarily for points and miles beginners, this is also a good choice for experienced points and miles gurus to pair with another Amex card to earn points on non-flight travel purchases, restaurants worldwide and transit.

This card's earning rates, coupled with its welcome bonus, can be a relatively easy way to build up your arsenal of Membership Rewards points. Plus, your points can be maximized by taking advantage of one of Amex's frequent transfer bonus promotions.
